Day camps are a great way for new and prospective suburban families to meet locals in the areas you’re exploring—and sending city camps to camp out of the city gives them a chance to step out of their immediate comfort zones, and take advantage of even bigger, better activities, outdoor adventures and more. We’ll be highlighting a few different camps in each of our different areas over the next few weeks, so whether you’re looking for a last-minute placement or researching for next summer, check back each week!

This Week…Pierce Country Day Camp in Roslyn!

This nearly-100 year old camp is a favorite among Long Island families, and for good reason. The camp is dynamic and filled with incredible activities for day campers, there’s a huge emphasis placed on creativity and the staff is well-trained and extremely committed to kids’ success. And, as Pierce is “obsessed to be the best,” the camp is constantly being updated with the latest and greatest, from musical theater offerings to sculpture classes to a world class aquatics center.

The ages

Pierce offers programs for children as young as 3 and 4, up through the “Nines & Up” group. In addition, they have a sports academy to help athletes in 1st – 3rd grade hone their skills in baseball, basketball, soccer and swimming.

The facilities

This 27-acre camp with plenty of outdoor space, plus a state-of-the-art aquatics center, Water World spraygroung, sports facilities, art studios and more. The facilities are impeccably managed and consistently upgraded and enhanced to ensure the best summer possible for campers.

The activities

Pierce boasts that no two days are the same—and that’s definitely the case! Campers swim twice per day in the 7-temperature controlled pools, following the American Red Cross swimming program. Kids also spend time splashing around in the Water World sprayground most days. Between aquatic activities, kids participate in non-competitive sports including baseball/t-ball, soccer, lacrosse, flag football, volleyball, Zumba, basketballl, gymnastics and much, much more. And for creative kids, there’s plenty to try, from dance classes and “Pierce Idol” to yoga, studio arts, sketching, drama and music. In addition to these day-to-day activities, kids will also have a chance to try their hand at some great action adventure activities, including bungee trampolines, zip lines, paddle boats, Sea Doos and diving instruction! There’s still time to register for summer 2015, but camp starts soon! This is a great option for families new to the Roslyn area, as it enables kids to get right in the swing of things before school starts. Even if you’re still in NYC for part of the summer, considering a camp in your new community is a great way to help ease young ones’ nerves—and yours, too! Happy summer!
